Getting your download

Your licence key is emailed straight after purchase, together with a secure download link, usually within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it hasn't arrived after an hour, then email us with your order number.

Requirements

A Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer, Apple silicon or Intel. No account and no internet connection needed.

Installing on your Mac

This works the same for Sablefilm and for Sablefilm Layers.

  1. Open the zip you downloaded.
  2. Drag the app into your Applications folder.
  3. Open it. The first time, macOS will ask you to allow it (see below).
  4. Paste your licence key when asked and click Activate.

First time you open it

Sablefilm and Sablefilm Layers are not from the Mac App Store, so macOS may say it "cannot verify the developer". That is expected. Click Done (not Move to Bin), open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section and click Open Anyway, then confirm with your password or Touch ID. You only do this once.

If you are comfortable with Terminal, you can instead run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Sablefilm.app" (or "/Applications/Sablefilm Layers.app") and open the app normally.

Your licence key

The app is locked until you enter a key, and there is no free trial. Your key starts with SABLE- and is in your order email. Copy all of it, paste it into the licence box and click Activate. It is kept safely on your Mac and checked without the internet. To see which order it belongs to, or to remove it and move it to another Mac, choose Licence in the app's menu.

Each app has its own key, so a Sablefilm key does not open Sablefilm Layers and the other way round. One licence covers up to three Macs that you own or control.

Opening your own files

Sablefilm opens RAW files and imports your own Lightroom presets (.xmp and .lrtemplate). Sablefilm Layers opens your original PSD and PSB files and saves them back as PSDs that Photoshop still opens.

Updates

Updates are free for the version you bought. We'll announce new versions on this site, and you can ask us to resend your download link any time.
